Welcome to the first ever blog post from your community of brand new apartments in Austin. Here at Urban North, we’re on a mission to make our residents as happy as possible. Part of that means making sure they know not just about the luxury amenities at Urban North, but also about the amazing community around our apartments. There’s a lot going on in North Austin, and we’re here with a bi-monthly blog to tell you all about it.
This week’s blog post is about the top-rated restaurants near our apartments on 183 North. Check out the list below, and be sure to share this post with your neighbors so they know where to find the freshest food in North Austin.
Everyone has their own favorite sandwich from one of the chain sandwich shops in town. There are some advantages to going with ol’ reliable for lunch, but do you really want to eat the same sandwich every week for Friday lunch? If you want to expand your palate, but don’t want to stray too far from your standard lunch of a sandwich and chips, check out Noble Sandwich Co.
Once you take a bite of the PBLT at Noble Sandwich Co., you’ll wonder why you ever gave your money to a chain sandwich shop. The PBLT is a pork belly sandwich with romaine lettuce, garlic mayonnaise and roasted tomato. This flavorful creation is light years beyond the BLT you’re used to getting at your go-to sandwich shop. If you want to try something even more daring, check out the duck pastrami reuben — it’s one of their signature sandwiches for a reason.
According to one well-informed Yelp reviewer, you’re only going to enjoy the food at Szechuan House is you avoid the American-Chinese menu items and instead go for the Sichuan food. The egg rolls, orange chicken and wontons taste like any other Chinese restaurant, but the Sichuan cuisine is out-of-this-world good. Those options include crispy tofu, shredded pork or eggplant, and fish fillet. We would be doing you a disservice if we did not remind you to order a glass of water or two, because Sichuan food tends to be spicy.
Both Red’s Porch locations in Austin have amazing views, but we prefer the one up north. This restaurant sits on the edge of a quarry, and the outdoor patio is high enough up that you can see the water from your seat at the table. The food tastes delicious, but don’t expect to find too many healthy meals at Red’s. This is more of a “nachos, tater tots and queso” kind of place, as opposed to a “kale, farm-to-table, mixed greens” kind of place. If you want to get together with friends for happy hour and apps, however, Red’s is the perfect spot.
The second smallest pizza at Jersey Giant Pizza is 20” in diameter. That tells you all you need to know about this pizza place that prides itself on massive pies. Jersey Giant Pizza manages to deliver quality and quantity, as their tomato sauce is reportedly some of the best in the Austin area. It used to be hard to find super authentic New York/New Jersey style pizza in Austin, but that all changed once Jersey Giant Pizza opened up. Oh, we almost forgot the best part; they deliver to Urban North.
